The painting above is one of my favorites. Van Gogh painted this for his nephew shortly after he was born. His brother Theo named his son after him and asked Vincent to be his God-Father. His nephew grew up to be one of Vincent van Gogh's biggest supporters and the reason we can still see Van Gogh's art today. Vincent Willem van Gogh, Jr (1890-1978) created the Vincent van Gogh Foundation in 1960 and built the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands. A tribute to Vincent van Gogh by Don McLean: Starry NightSaint Rémy, June 1889 Oil on canvas "Looking at the stars always makes me dream," he said, "Why, I ask myself, shouldn't the shining dots of the sky be as accessible as the black dots on the map of France? Just as we take the train to get to Tarascon or Rouen, we take death to reach a star." ~Vincent van Gogh For more on this painting visit the MoMA: http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=79802
